IBM Personal Communication a sketch of LifeNet activities

LifeNet

The Life Networking Project's objective is to develop new applications of Information Technology (IT) for use in an individual's or family's personal space. By beginning the design of every device and interaction with the human user, LifeNet seeks to enhance the experience of communicating (email/vmail), controlling home and entertainment functions, and accessing electronic commerce (CD offers, vacation planning, etc.) Through a combination of pleasing visual presentation and natural interaction (e.g., speech, gesture, conversation), the user can check messages, display television listings, select from online audio and video catalogs, and monitor the Family's electronic choreboard. LifeNet seeks to minimize transcription of data from device to device, viewing the collection of devices as a networked system rather than focusing on individual devices.
